Hi all,
I have the opportunity to tack a 2 or 3 night backpacking trip onto a business trip to portland. I've browsed some on Portlandhikers.org and other places on the internet and come up with a couple of options, but I'd like to have input for the BPLers in the area.
I check out of my hotel in Portland on Friday, Aug 7. I'm planning on having a rental car unless there's a better option. I'm open to staying the night somewhere Friday night and starting out on Saturday AM or starting Friday PM if that makes sense.
I am hoping for something where I'll be able to use my hammock for shelter, so I'll need a few trees around. I don't mind a little little elevation change but keep in mind I'm coming from the East Coast, so I would say moderate to difficult. A few thousand feet and a 10 mile day would definitely be enough to make me sweat. Nothing technical. I prefer to camp near a stream or lake to do a little fishing (tenkara or traditional fly fishing) and so I don't have to carry too much water.
I've looked so far at walking into Jefferson Park via the South Breitenbush Trailhead. It looks like there's a hot springs/campground near the trailhead where I could stay Friday night.
I was also thinking about the Three Sisters area but that might be getting a little far from Portland. I've got to get back to the airport at some point.
I'm also open southern WA.
