I'm doing Sections J and K of the PCT, and looking at flying into Sea-Tac. I'll check my pack and poles in a duffel and will carry-on a small daybag.

"Ken's Baggage" at the airport charges about $150+ to store the empty duffel and daybag for the 15 days I'll be out. Ouch!

I'll be staying at Snoqualmie Inn on "Night 1", which isn't a regular stop, so I can't pick stuff up on the way back from Wenatchee.

One option is to mail a package from Sea-Tac to a Wenatchee motel ("Night 14").

Does anyone have other suggestions?

Thanks.

how are you getting from seatac to Snoqualmie and Wenatchee to seatac?

Greg must be using some sort of paid ride from the airport?

What if you mailed it to yourself general delivery? Maybe to a small town post office on the way after you are done or back to a post office near SeaTac?

I have similar issues for my trip this summer….although being English (and so of course VERY charming) I have persuaded my hotel to hold my baggage for nothing.

My other option was poste restante – with USPS this must be a cheaper option for you? Timing dependent?

I don't know if this is practical for you, but I had the same problem one time. I solved it with a super lightweight duffle bag that would fit over my backpack for the air flight. Once I got where I was flying, the duffle bag got folded up and flattened into the bottom of my backpack for the walk. Then I had it with me at the end.

I have some ultra-durable duffle bags from Eagle Creek, but the super lightweight one came from Outdoor Products. There are several sizes available.

Granted, you are carrying that duffle bag weight around with you. On the other hand, maybe you can use it as extra insulation when you sleep.

Jerry – Fly to SeaTac, Winatchee Valley Shuttle to Snoqualamie Pass, Hike to Stehekin, Ferry to Chelan, Link Transit to Winatchee (and possible duffel drop) and WVS back to SeaTac.

Tom – best guess is Arrive SeaTac July 27th or 28th. I'm still trying to estimate progress versus campsites.

John – The PO won't be open when I get there. I've mailed stuff to motels in the past. It's just a question I have to ask when I make the reservation.

Ed – the package will have about 13 days to get there.

Bob – Interesting option, but I'd rather not carry an unneeded duffel for 185 miles.

Dale – Excursions complicate things on both ends. Thanks though.

Ken – "Ken's Baggage" is a UPS depot and they have the supplies to package and ship. They are located by Carousel #12 in baggage claims.

That makes it pretty easy to ship to my motel.

Bummer. I'm getting back from the Sierra on the 29th. If your plans change and you arrive on the 30th or later, and are interested, I'll be happy to pick you up from Sea-Tac and give you a lift to Snoqualmie Pass. It would also be easy for me to mail your duffel from either my local USPS or UPS stations, both within a half mile of where I live.

Bummer is right…

I think I've got it covered, but know it's always good to ask around.
Especially here.

Thanks for the offer. Have a great time in the Sierra.

Stehekin? If so there is a post office there that accepts general delivery all the time for PCT hikers.

If you are going out at rainy pass and bypassing Stehekin, you are truly missing a great experience.

I am doing the exact same hike in September. And last year I did section K, exited out at Stehekin.

John –
I'm exiting at Stehekin. I'll spend two nights there, one full day at the Bakery.

Then the ferry to Chelan. Carrying the pack works well. I only need the duffel for the flight, so shipping it to my last motel works best.

"Have a great time in the Sierra."

Thank you and likewise, Greg. You've picked a very scenic section of the PCT, so the odds are very much in your favor. If you have time when you're in Stehekin, check out "The Garden", an organic vegetable operation run by a very interesting guy named Karl Gaskill. You will be able to purchase fresh veggies in season which, by then, should include tomatoes and cukes, things that will taste pretty darn good by then.
