I am trying to put together a winter setup for New England weather. I know that Dave Horton has been on the mission, so chime in with what you've discovered so far Dave!
I currently have a Montbell UL Thermawrap Parka as an insulation jacket and a capilene 1 tee shirt and a Capilene 2 or 3 Crew as a baselayer. I also own a lightweight Balaclava from Smartwool, a beanie, and liner gloves. I'm most interested in my torso setup for now.
I am open to changing my base layer, but the Montbell Parka is here to stay. I figure that a zip neck crew may be useful to go over a silkweight T..
I'm planning on purhcasing either a Houdini or an Ion, depending on which I decide. Though I don't expect this decision can be made for me, and I've found a bit of discussion on the matter, any opinions are welcomed.
My real question is what do I look at as a midlayer? I plan on using the parka at stops/sleeping and wearing a base, midlayer and either the houdini or ion on the move. I've considered vests, hoodies, and fleece as a midlayer.
Am I on the right track for a winter layering system? I don't know if I'm confused about my layering setup or what. Are there any members here in particular that have winter gearlists I should check out?
