Hi, I have a piece of carbon felt that I want to make into a "sleeve" or "tube" to fit around the top part of my beer can pot, not only for picking it up but to leave on while boiling to insulate the top of the pot for faster boils and fuel efficiency. What is the best way to affix one end of the felt to the other?

Considering the intense heat it will be exposed to I didn't think regular glue would be an option, but then again perhaps the felt will insulate enough that regular glue would work. But if not then what? JB Weld? Sew the ends together (if so with what)? Staples? Velcro (would it melt?).

Would appreciate input from anyone with direct experience affixing carbon felt to itself. Thanx!

Stainless staples would be great. The carbon felt alcohol burner for the Backcountry Boiler stove uses staples on a long piece of felt folded in half with staples along the long edge to form little pockets. i would at least want to use those heavy duty office staple machines, the ones with the long levers for a beefier than the standard staple.

Felt would be easy to sew. Use carbon fiber or fiberglass to withstand any temperature it might see. If you want a lenght of carbon fiber to sew with, PM me your mailing address, I will put a small skein in the mail for you.

I have some stainless steel staples I can share. Send an email.

Thanks all. I actually have a smaller, "home" version of those big staplers, it can handle 60 sheets, would that do? And the staples I have for it are 3/8", don't know if those are long enough or what metal they are (probably zinc-coated steel but not stainless).
