I bought a Packa 2nd hand on GearSwap, washed it, hung it outside my house to dry — and it disappeared. We searched for over an hour in the neighbourhood, but it was gone– just gone(!).

When I went to order a new one, the website listed a temporary deal on a mid/lightweight 20D fabric (finished garment weight +/- 9.5oz) for the same price as the 33D cheapest option (13oz.

The Packa came today, and it looks great; the fabric is airy and light, and feels nice, even next to the skin. — so if you need one, be aware of the 20D option. I believe it will be available until he runs out of current stock. The 20D option is only listed on the "Contact Us" page:

Sorry to hear you lost the first one. I have been looking at the Packa for 6 or 7 years and finally ordered a 20d that was delivered last Saturday. Having made the move to a poncho some years ago, I am in hopes that the Packa will nicely bridge the gap. I spend a lot of time off trail and above timberline, not the best place for a poncho, but it has worked pretty well, although with trekking poles my arms got wet. I had toyed with the idea of cutting my poncho up and making a DYI Packa a la Parcho, but decided not to and placed the order.

With my poncho I also take it off the minute it stops raining and then don it once it starts. I have gotten pretty quick at doing this, provided it isn't blowing too hard, but a trial run of the Packa was very encouraging, particularly in terms of getting in and out while it is on my pack. Between the front zip and the huge pit zips, venting should be good. The shock cord is quite robust and I will replace that with lighter cord along with the cord locks and adding zipper pulls, but overall I am looking forward to putting it into service. I went with the grey as I like to blend in and if I stand still I should "disappear" in a field of boulders.

Like John V, I've been intrigued by the Packa for a couple years, but it always seemed too heavy for me to take the plunge. In the meantime, the combined wisdom of the people who frequent this forum convinced me to try a poncho. I certainly get it…only 1oz heavier than my UL "WPB" jacket, covers the pack, loose and billowy so lots of air movement. It was certainly all of those things. It is also a total PITA in the wind and brush. I also place it in the same category as a tarp/bivy shelter…yeah, they work, but I just feel like I'm "hanging it all out" if that makes any sense. I'm sold on my Duplex as a shelter.

Recently pulled the trigger on a 20d Packa and am pretty happy. Dropped ~2oz from it just by replacing the "robust" shock cord and cord locks with 1/16" cord and mini cord locks…my large comes in at 8.5 oz. It's almost as breezy as the poncho, but feels much more "buttoned up" when I want it to, and with the full front zip and pit-zips open it feels very poncho-like. I haven't truly put it through it's paces yet, but I'm thinking it's my new go-to upper body rain wear for off-and-on weather…super comfy and airy.

Still gonna stick with the full-on 3L Pro Shell gear for those winter trips when I know I'm going to live in my rain gear for days on end.

When I look at the top right corner of the page, I see this (warning, may be offensive):
Strange and offensive header.

Yes, but I have left this here pro tem and alerted Packa about it.

At this moment, I too see "essay writing help melbourne".

As I remember, when I was researching my order, it said something different, but equally non sensical. It's obviously some kind of (robot generated?) ad link. I ignored it just as I do all such interweb nonsense.
