Anyone used Siltaffeta

The review comments suggest that is has a low HH and is troublesome to seal. Interested in seeing how others feel about it.

There are quite a few 10d-20d fabrics being used for tent flys by the larger gear makers. Seems like GoLite also used very small denier fabrics on their Imogene series of tents. They're out there, but the difference is everyone's standard of how waterproof a fabric should be. Some people think a tent fly must have 3,000mm HH. Most companies usually go with about half that.

Extrem Textil has a 20D silnylon that it rates at 2000mm HH – Comes in 3 colors, and weighs 1.16 osy (my scale). Overseas shipping by ET has improved greatly and it now takes credit cards without a PayPal transfer. Noticed that material has an electrostatic quality that attracts small sand and dust particles – but that is common for silnylons.

S to S Escapist tarps are reputed to include a silnylon coat, but exhibit qualities of PU, including less e-static. Both sides of fabric adhere to PU, but haven't tried any serious bonding with it yet. Fabric is 1.06 osy (my scale), but rated only to 1200mm HH and only comes in lyme. Very expensive way to purchase fabric compared to the ET stuff.

Terra-Nova Tarp Ones are rated at 3000mm, come only in dark green, and weigh ~1.15 osy (my scale). Coating is all sil, but doesn't appear to attract dust. They are 100% sewn, not bonded, so entire tarp is usable fabric. Again, precious way to buy fabric.

Don't have independent HH tests for any of these. Maybe will shoot an email off to Richard this Spring.

I use ET all the time its a great pace for fabrics that you just cant get anywhere else,
I use their 40D silnylon and its probably the best fabric I have ever used.

I will be using their 20D for my next shelter and will be testing it.

its still £16 for postage which is very high as I can get fabric shipped form china for £5 postage. so buying just 1m is not practical you need to order a lot to make it worth while. I am aso thinking about importing a load from Ripstop by the roll, as I do like the camos :)
