Is it possible to paint or dye my sun hat?
It's solid white and looks too ladylike…It is 100% nylon.

You should be able to — directions say to add vinegar (see: https://www.ritstudio.com/techniques/tips-for-successful-dyeing/)
"It's solid white and looks too ladylike"
Huh? If you are going to be in the sun, white makes a lot of sense. Certainly your masculinity can handle a white hat.
It worked for the Duke :)

"Fashion" is a constraining concept for many things and can make your pack heavier. If you were in the middle of Death Valley in 120F heat, you wouldn't mind a white hat!
Use animal blood to dye it. Add 1 fluid ounce of acetic acid per quart of blood. Let it soak submerged until desired shade is achieved. According to your avatar, make it as dark as possible ;)
just drag it around in the dirt for a while…
that will turn it from bright white to off-white…
they you won't look like you're on your first hike…
and it'll look a whole lot more manly :)

Wrap a snake skin around it. Stick some fishing lures in it.
And hang corks from the brim :)
dye it pink
> dye it pink
Nay – tie-dye it with fluorescent dies!
Cheers
PS: nylon dyes OK.
(he was worried his white hat was too lady like)
Let's see it on that pretty head of yours. :)
Is it one of those broad sun hats like Sunday Afternoon makes? I've noticed that some men can really pull that hat off well and others not so much. It's sort of an odd hat. I don't think that a different color will really help, either. My boyfriend looks great in his, and it's olive drab, about as manly a color as you can get. But put that hat on someone else and sometimes it just looks too ladylike.
The Sunday Afternoons Adventure hat? I dont know about "lady like" (they do have bonnet-like features) but they are profoundly ugly and as effective for birth control as they are for UV protection :) Sunday Afternoons does make more conventional brimmed hats too.
Tilly hats are far more attractive, but less effective. Straw cowboy hats are okay if they clear your backpack.
I buy some white items but with the first wash after use, they turn a light beige still almost as good for the sun.

Blimey – have the EPA or the public health authorities checked your water supply?????
Cheers
If you wash white stuff with colors this is what usually happens. The white fabric picks up some color bleeding from the colored fabrics.
Which is why I am not allowed to wash my wife's whites.
Nylon dyes pretty well. But the dye color is not usually correct. For example, using RIT black dyes will yield a dark purple. Mixing with some sort of mildly acidic stuff, like a tablespoon or two of vinegar, will help, but really doesn't change the color of the dye.
Many of the RIT dyes are mixtures. Some colors, for example fluorescent red and orange, do not mix very well, the red will replace the orange leaving you with mostly fluorescent red. If you dye nylon, choose a single color dye ordered from an online place like: http://www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/
Used to do quite a bit of for fishing.
its an rei sahara womens…its a great hat but i want to use around the city and it is very girly as is…i did see a nice mh hat at rei but 40$ is way much to buy yet another hat.
