Just a short note to say that we did the LCT over our spring break, and both my wife and I were blown away by the beauty and variety of this hike!
We drove over from Idaho, via Medford OR; where we visited family before dropping south to the Mattole River TH. We had my son drop us off and continue down to the bay area for a visit with his grandmother, then return 4 days later to pick us up in Shelter Cove.
We had lots of rain, but typically at night, or in the morning before we were up! The walking on the beach was incredible, and we were treated to lots of wild flowers, a dead whale, sea lions, and one crazy whale who breached a handful of times right off the waves! Our UL approach was perfect for this trip. One bear can was plenty, and we started out our trip with my wife carrying 14lbs, and me with 24. We started late one afternoon, and spent three nights on the beach, finishing the hike before lunch on the final day.
Ok, I have to share this bit of gear review/gear use! We ordered an Enlightened Equipment 2 person quilt this winter and this was its maiden voyage. GUYS!! LISTEN UP!!
If you want to experience the ultimate comfort, the ultimate warmth, and the ability to absolutely spoil your significant other, you MUST check out a two person quilt. This was my/our first experience with a quilt, and it was incredible. We used two thin foam pads under our Neo Airs, because we always carry them for "sit pads", and with this set up, we attached the straps that loosely hold the quilt edges in place, and we just reveled in what is like having your bed from home in your tent! Just fabulous to have so much room and so much comfort! The guys at EE are just amazing, and the workmanship is top notch. Can't say enough about how this really changed the game for us as a hiking couple! The bottom line; sleeping bag for two, with stuff sack and straps; 2 lbs 4oz!
Our trip was a great success, and I'll elaborate and get some pics out soon.

I bought an EE single quilt in January and it's been so good that my wife and I have ordered the two-person, Accomplice. I'll never go back to a bag as long as the quilt is an option-it's so lightweight, compacts so small, and it's roomy and warm.

I've only been along the beach north of Shelter Cove, but that really is a wild area to the north. There's no evidence of any other people for many, many miles. It's just you and the ocean, the high cliffs, endless beaches, scrubby brush and a few trees, and the wildflowers.

Had the jawbone of the whale been removed? Done to gather info one the whale. Last one stunk up the whole campground at Mattole.
