A few years back, there was quite the buzz for Kupilka's in the ultralight community. 5 years later, is anyone still carrying theirs on a regular basis, or was it all just a fad?

I still take one on occasion
There was such buzz about 4 years ago, it seemed like all the cool kids were doing it. Is it really a useful piece of kit, or is it just a nostalgia thing?
It's single use. Can't put on heat like a lighter titanium mug. I like that I can hold on to it with hot stuff in it. It's comfortable to use. Perfect size for instant oatmeal. Ridiculous price. Wish it was a bit larger. I have the shot glasses too, civilized.
It isn't so much the material as it is the shape. It's just . . . more pleasing to hold than a Ti cup. I only take one if it's a short trip. I did see the whole Kupilka line at REI the other day, now changed to a dark green color than I thought was not as nice as the original brown.
I plan to make a real kuksa (wooden cup) from birch burl as soon as I obtain some. I like the aesthetics of drinking from a wooden cup which I made, especially if it's water freshly-dipped from a stream.
I'll probably use coal burning or power tools because I really don't enjoy carving *that* much.
Steven they are available in three colors now.
I was just thinking about these recently and couldn't recall the name. I never really understood the popularity, beyond aesthetics. Heavy, can't heat it, half plastic…might as well take one of those blue plastic GSI cups that cost ~$2.50.
"Wish it was a bit larger. I have the shot glasses too,"
I bet you wish the shot glasses were larger too.
I still carry mine. Not every trip but most trips.
Kupilka: 3 oz
Plastic 1 Cup Measuring Cup: 0.7 oz

Actually no. They are small enough that I don't feel self conscious having two! I only drink hard liquor in the back country, Been like four years since I had a bar drink. Kidding aside they are a standard shot size.
I did pass on my request for a slightly larger cup to Kupilka a while back. We'll see, they seemed very receptive the the idea.
@Kate. Choices are great. Less of chance to have my mug get confused with someone else's Try eating something piping hot in that plastic cup.
yeah, it is heavy, and i do have a ti cup, but i always take the Kupilka 21 on all my trips and use it at home too,,, i just like the shape,,, and it holds the perfect amount of liquid for my taste
Not me. I'm too BauHaus to use it for backpacking.
Sorry to get a little off subject,
I was using a peanut butter jar, but replaced it last year with the Sistema Soup Mug.
More versatile and doesn't burn your hands with hot meals and drinks. Besides peanut butter jars are the wrong kind of plastic for use with hot liquids.
It may not be that ultralight and you can't use it on the stove, but it suits my personal style:
I can rehydrate foods in it while I hike or overnight in a bear bag.
Use it like a freezer bag for freezer bag cooking.
Store leftovers for later
Soak no-cook food in it. Either inside my bear bag or backpack.
Coffee cup
Soup bowl
…
And very important for me, it doesn't leak when the lid is on and has a drink/sip/vent lid.
