Petzl e+Lite issues, goes beyond off

I tried an e-lite in 2011 for a JMT trip where I would be hiking with a group at night. My normal light didnt have a red light and I didn't want to be "that guy" so I picked up an e-lite. I really liked it on that trip. So, my next trip I took the e-lite same thing as you and I couldn't get it to turn on (went past off). I got it fixed at home but after reading about other switch issues people have had, I went back to my old light (and added .8 back to my pack)

I checked a couple three places for reviews, not one person mentioned this issue. I'll have to leave it out, until ready to place on my head, when going to bed to read. As long as I remember to bring a book.

Warranty issues were easy for me dealing with Petzl. Can you go that route?

I'll check into warranty issues, usually keep stuff, but then, things usually work, unless a receipt gets lost on batteries or the gear itself is damaged by batteries.

I had a bad experience with that switch too but in a different way. I got a piece of sand in it and got it permanently stuck in the on position. I got home, googled, and found its of other people had similar issues. I think the design is flawed. I returned the light to REI and never looked back.

I had a different switch issue with mine. While in an on position, the light would flicker on and off. At first, I could nudge the switch to get it to go back on. But after a while it was hit or miss if the switch would bring the light on at all. I stopped using it because I could not trust it. This was after several years of use.

I read of the sand in the switch a few years ago, but felt I keep my stuff clean, in a baggie with my matches, utensils. I guess some have to be defective. I'll have to check into warranty, this was so light and small, did't need a light to light a trail up.

no issues here on one thats 6 years old and seen much use

this is one of the reasons i like to buy headlamps from MEC or someplace with a no time limit no questions asked over the counter warranty

Yeah, same here. No problems ever (not counting scorching…another story.) Still using the first one with no whistle. Paid way more than they sell for now.

I used mine (the most recent vintage, I think) a lot last year with no problems. Looking at it, on this one it is not possible to rotate the switch either way past the lock position. Maybe that's new?

However, the spring-retracted cord has always got me thinking about a quick fix in case it fails.

But on the whole I love this sub-1 oz light, but it'd also be nice if there was one more setting lower than the current low, which is still brighter than necessary for close-in work, IMHO, and would conserve a few electrons. Pretty good lumens and run time considering the itsy-bitsy batteries that power it… though they're not exactly the cheapest option, for sure!

I have had trouble with the super fine sand in S. Utah making it hard to move the switch but it has worked it's way out and never stopped me from getting it turned off.

I had a Petzl go bad. Called warranty. Sent it in. Received new one in about a week or so. Easy.
