As of today (October 30, 2019), we’ve turned off all network banner advertising for Unlimited Members, providing a faster, less cluttered, and less intrusive browsing experience.
This comes with a few caveats that we’re still working on:
- Network advertising still appears in our site search results. We are using the (free) Google Custom Search Engine, which requires ads to be served as part of its terms of service. However, we are hoping to move (finally) to a custom site search in 2020. That’s an expensive upgrade for us, so we have to save some $ for its development, which we’re doing now!

As a followup – other than on the Gear Deals page, and in the Site Search, if you find yourself seeing an ad when you are logged in as an Unlimited Member, please post a screenshot and the URL here, so we can diagnose and fix. We think we were able to get all of the ad placements today, but you never know…thanks!

Now it would be nice not to get automatically logged out so often, but I guess the re-emergence of banner ads will signal to me when to log back in.
