Zpacks just introduced the Duo Pivot. Might appeal to some folks for the room. The 3 poles needed to set up is just something I personally wouldn’t want to deal with. It’s like a battle of the 2p tents out there in these hiking streets:)

Looks like an Offset Duo but with an inside foot end pole the Offset has been needing all along.

I keep going back and forth on the utility of the short end pole on these designs. On this duo, I can see how the foot end pole might help with condensation and all the rest. For the one person tent, I wonder if adding a second pole at the foot end doesn’t introduce more issues in terms of pitching than it solves in terms of function. I don’t know! It doesn’t seem to add to overall stability of the tent. Condensation on the foot of my bag is essentially a non issue for me.

For a one ounce penalty, the space that’s opened up with the 32″ pole is a no-brainer for me. The interior space experience in the Pivot Solo vs a typical mid is a completely different experience.

I can certainly see its role in expanding the Duo version too.

In comparison to the Offset series I do like the 3rd pole inside the canopy versus outside. But I don’t know why they went with a taller peak height and deeper vestibules. I don’t think it was necessary. Overall I think it’s a great design for livability, and no rainbow door.

I know people are giving the Pivot Solo good reviews but I think it would have been better with 3 poles like the Offset Solo.

Totally agree about the Pivot Duo’s 52″ height being too much. It should be 48″ and instead of one thin vertical foot end pole I’d like to see an outer sleeve that holds two 7.4 mm carbon poles in an upside-down V to provide lateral stability. Right now the Pivot Duo looks like a giant windcatcher that could get really unstable in a major blow.

@Rob Daly – I really don’t blame Zpacks for ditching the 3rd pole for the Pivot Solo considering all the complaints I read/heard about the extra pole required for the Offset line of tents.

I don’t either. I just think it would be a better shelter with 3 poles like the Offset solo or the Pivot Duo.

I was interested in the Offset Duo after seeing how well it fit my friend 6’3″, 255lbs and how impressed he was with it-he is not easily pleased. Sad to see it’s been replaced with the Pivot Duo.
