I’m in the market for an ultralight tent.   I’ve been eying the Zpacks Triplex; however, I just noticed there is a freestanding version that was recently released November ’21 called the Free Trio.   Do any of you have any experience with this tent?  I only found one review that criticized the doors being too short compared to previous Zpacks tents which may be a problem for wind, rain, and privacy.

I’ve done a lot of research on the Triplex.  Wish there was a way to get the Free Trio version with slightly longer doors without me modifying myself.

I think my impression from what others have said, is that the Zpacks free standing mods are not that sturdy in wind. Makes sense, since it was probably not designed to be free standing to begin with, I assume.

I believe the new Free Trio tent is an entirely new design apart from the Triplex.  Seems like its super new so there hasn’t been many reviews on it.

Ah, yes, my bad. You are correct the free duo and trio are different than the kit for the duplex. My impression is of the poor wind ability of the duplex add-on version.

That’s going to be one super expensive experiment to try out!

The pole structure on the Free Trio is similar to the Free Duo and Flex Kit Duplex. Their video shows it best:
