ZPacks Flat Tarps: Do They Hold Up

I’ve decided that my 8½ X 8½ flat tarp is too small and want to move to something larger like an 8½ X 10. I notice that the Z-Packs flat tarps are made with either the .51 or the .67 oz/y2 Dyneema. My HMG square tarp is made of heavier fabric. How does the lighter stuff wear?

Mine is holding up, but if the fabric touches any brush, it can wear through on a windy night. I’ve patched a few holes. I’m happy with the purchase, but it was secondhand; paying full price I’d look for something thicker for your money.

I’ve put 3500+ miles on a Zpacks .51 oz tarp!  And they weren’t easy trail conditions.

I’ve only suffered 2 pinholes that were my fault and easily remedied with some DCF tape.  I’m suspecting it’s time to replace it as I have noticed some DCF breakdown in other gear over time.  But I am more than satisfied with the performance of the fabric.   When I make my own replacement, I’m sticking with .51 oz.
