This looks like it might be a good pack for a JMT thru-hike but concerned it might not handle a 9″X12″ bear canister internaly according to the advertised dimensions. Does anyone have any experiance with this pack? Id be curious to know how it manages medium loads I am anticipating for the second half of the trip with out a resupply…

Have tried just about every LW pack out there and have returned all for one reason or another. My plan is to complete the hike in 14-16 hiking days and have approximately a 14# base weight…

Thanks for any and all feedback!

Hi DS I did the JMT in October packed comfortable to zero degrees with the 500 bear canister in a Ula CDT and my wife packed the same and her small OHM I think mine’s 1750 cubic inch main bag and hers is 2100 the ark Haul seems to be a little bigger in the main pack so you should be fine I carried a 10-day food supply on the last half

Thanks for the feed back Lee. very impressive to complete JMT with those packs. Maybe I need to rethink the pack volume and base weight. Haven’t had a good experience with ULA packs…

I did 6 days on JMT with Arc Haul using Bear Vault BV 500.  The pack handled it fine, I just twitch wasting all that weight on a bear container.

Im not a fan of the can either but you have to be compliant or loose your permit. In my case I splurged on the Bearikade Blazer. Its slightly larger than the BV500 and a lot lighter…

For me, I dont mind carying a slightly heavier pack if it makes the weight disappear. The last half of the JMT is where the pack will weigh the most and from experience, carrying 10# of potatoes in a 5# sack isnt too much fun…

Thanks for your input!
