Hey all,

Sorry this is a little long winded.

I have tried emailing zpacks 3x and they keep on avoiding giving me a straight answer for some reason about what is best…maybe someone has had a similar issue with sizing?

I ordered an Arc Blast pack “short” size about two weeks ago (takes 6 weeks)and I’m having serious doubts on the size I chose.

My back is measured (using their method) @ 19.5”
I am almost 6’ tall and thin 150lbs
So by their sizing charts I am on the top end of the short and the bottom end of the medium.

The main issue is the exterior top bar as shown in the video below may hit his head when looking up.

Has this been an issue for anyone?

Am I limiting or losing flexibility for myself in any way by not getting the medium?

I understand the straps can move up and down for proper
Shoulder alignment/belt hight which could be too low maybe at “short”?

Here is a video claiming he needed the short @21” 5’11”

Youtube video

Then I watched a zpacs video recently (skip to 2min) and that bar is pretty high up…but no mention by them about size of person or pack of model (which I asked about as well)

Thanks!

I’m 5′ 10″, measured my torso and ordered a medium. When I tried it on, I looked at the angle of the load lifters and wondered whether I needed a tall. So my wife took a photo from the side and I sent it to zPacks. They replied (within a few days) thusly:

The pack doesn’t seem to be to short on you, it seems to fit right. The load lifters are to be at a 30-45 degree angle from the shoulder strap to frame, and yours seem to be good.

It does look like the pack may be over arced a bit. Try and keep the arc set at a 2.5″-3″ depth. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. —Jamie “Field Trip” Walsh

So I slacked my arc a bit. Alas, I didn’t keep the photo. Hope this helps.

For what it’s worth, I have a size Large Arc Blast. I’m about 6′ tall. I think it fits great. Mainly I like that the hip belt goes around my waist. I never worried about the head roll or where the load lifters are. The load lifters don’t do much.

My friend got one too. She’s about 5’10”. She got the medium and immediately adjusted it to the maximum length.

I am 5’9″ (or at least I used to be), and the medium is not too tall for me. I certainly don’t hit my head on anything. People of different heights have different torso lengths, but I’d be surprised if someone 6′ tall needs a short. Are you hitting your head on the cross-bar?  You would know.

Edit: Sorry, I just realized you haven’t received it yet. The main issue if it’s too short would be that the load-lifters wouldn’t be functional.

To me the important function of a good fitting pack is 90+ % of the weight is around my middle, and not much if any is on my shoulders.

Only thing I can offer is don’t listen to the guy in the video he doesn’t know how to wear a pack with load lifters…..

Top of straps should be about even with shoulders, not wrapping them.

My arc blast is magic.   But its not adjustable, from back when joe made it custom
