i bought what was described as a 55 L Arc Blast off eBay or this site, not sure.  I have been trying to ascertain it’s volume by finding the history of the early Arc Blasts.  I cannot find this pack.  The bag when measured is 12 in wide x 4 inches deep by I’m guessing 24 in long.  For the body only that is 48 sq in x 24 or 1152 cu inches. Let’s call it 1200.  That is equivalent to about 20 liters for the main body.  I cannot find any Blast less than 45 L.  Add this 20 L to the volume of the front and side pockets (8 and 2.5 x 2) = 33 liters!!  Where am I going wrong?  It is the old hipbelt and shoulder straps (though I did sew on a new hb onto the old one after cutting off most of the medium hb.   ZPacks say they cannot help me.  Does anyone have a clue why I am not measuring a larger main body?   Like at least 32 liters so when I add the 13 for the outside pockets it would come out to be a 45 liter.  It appears to be only 33.

Thanks for any insights,

Steve

I believe the original hip belt padding area was only approx. 20 inches long. It barely fit my 36 waist.

Sometimes the Wayback Machine can help. Here’s their first capture of the Arc Blast in July 2012, right after introduction:

Doesn’t match your specs, but you can easily jump forward to see if other models had specs like yours.

Zpacks also did custom work until recently. Yours seems much shorter than the 29-30″ spec on the models I checked; maybe to strap a bear can outside the pack?

I will second Rex’s suggestion that you may have gotten hold of some custom work…was a time when ZPacks would customize pretty much any of their products any way you wanted.

Ah…remembering how it used to be  :)

Thanks everyone for your help!  I really appreciate it.  Actually I have the answer.  Once I realized that the volume of the main body was counted all the way to the top, all the numbers came together.  Main body figures out to be 39 L.  Add the 13 for the pockets makes it a 52L.  Thanks !!!   I love this old pack, and now that I know all my summer gear fits easily in it I can be confident that the Arc Haul ZIP I have ordered will not be all that much too large, especially for winter.   Life is good.

Steve.
