Anyone see the Yosemite firefall. Supposed to be around for a few more days. For about a week each year, the sunset lines up with Horsetail falls and it lights up like it’s on fire. Weather has to be just right. Lots of stream flow this year.

Nope. But I saw the original Yosemite Firefall from Glacier Point, some 55-60 years ago. Rangers burned a huge pile of wood down to glowing embers, then pushed it over the edge of Glacier Point, created a cascade of glowing coals.
Yep. They really used to do that every night.
Now that’s weird. How mid 20th century.
My wife remembers that, and then we saw this story so she thought it must have just been the sunset. Now we’re back to an actual fire falls, her memory is still good.
I remember the real fire falls as well. In SE Idaho Monsanto pours the molten slag out in a redneck volcano display. To go with that they have a capped geyser they set off in downtown Soda Springs. A redneck Old Faithful – except when it is “out of order”. My kids loved it when they were little. It takes much more to keep them entertained now.
