My wife and I are doing an Idaho backpacking trip in a few weeks. We have a few extra days after the trip so we thought we’d take a drive over to Yellowstone. I figured I’d check to see if there are any backcountry camping permits to make the most of the time. I was surprised to see there were a ton. Am I missing something, I thought they sold out immediately. This is my first time looking into it, I just had always heard they sell out right away.
Zack, make the reservations. My guess is that online National Parks Doom & Gloom is keeping people away. I haven’t been in Yellowstone since the 2022 floods but there were always a lot of empty “reserved” camp sites and very few people in the back country.
