2 oz $20 inflatable vest for emergency cold exposure events. One time use, sort of.
There’s some hype and misinformation there (such as one’s warm/moist breath is a plus inflating and ignoring that radiant barriers need at least one air gap otherwise they just conduct heat), but if it works at all, especially if you could fit tight windproof anything over atop it to trap even more air, it might make sense. I’m new to UL, appreciate any input evaluating this for UL.
My thinking is, seems like when UL gets dicey, even among the experienced, it often involves cold exposure, too little clothing/shelter for unanticipated conditions or it just got wet, so question is; would this XeroVest likely work then saving you and thus worth 2 oz adding it to the pack? Another way to ask it is, if you think it works, was there ever a time you’d of wished you had one?
Maybe it’s just me, being a newbie, thinking I’d feel less stress with it as I’m experimenting with leaving ever more gear behind.
Thanks for any thoughts. – Shane
