X-pac as food bag

Wondering if anyone has ever used X-pac for the material for their food bag? SWD makes an interested “lunch box” style one that fits in their bag nicely. Would these material deter critters any more than a normal stuff sack or would they be able to chew through it just as easily.

Thanks!

I have some holes in an Xpac hipbelt pocket from a marmot. I don’t think there’s a significant difference in critter resistance versus a lightweight stuff sack material.

You’d probably want thick, woven, all dyneema fabric as an outside layer, and then the Xpac as an inner layer.

Something that I’ve wondered about though is copper mesh. I’ve read reviews of people successfully lining holes in their house that squirrels, rats, mice, or the like were getting in, and the copper mesh kept them out. There is something about copper and critters not wanting to put it in their mouth for some reason.

It also kills slugs if they try to go across it (like in a garden).  Besides all that, like silver, it’s highly anti-microbial in a broad spectrum sense.

Due to all the above, I’ve wondered if covering/encasing a bag with copper mesh might be a good critter deterrent or not?  It would have to be secured to the fabric in some way, because a smart and nimble animal would likely try to remove it..

I wonder how bears would also react to it?  They’d probably learn quickly to shred it up and off with their claws before biting into whatever container in question.
