Watching the Sunday morning news May 18 about a Culver City HS art teacher. He was BPL’s own Craig WISNER! If you read his posts you may think of him as a sort of a Renaissance man. The piece wasn’t about his hiking or biking, spearfishing or pottery, nor his writing or surfing. It was about him engaging his students in playing chess.  Here’s a toast to Craig WISNER! with the custom mug he & his students made for a bunch of BPL members who met at the Grand Canyon in 2012 for a R2R2R attempt. Dramatic weather and a variety of success (I made R2River2R). Thank you Craig for the cherished gift & for continuing to inspire your students.

Ha, thanks for the shout-out Rob!

It’s great to know some of those R2R2R cups are still going strong! That was a great trip with a top-notch group of people.

I can’t imagine a better representative for engaged teaching than Craig. The thing is, he brings it all when he’s with students. How do I know? through a decade of reading his posts on Chaff. He’s fully there for kids who may not have that in their lives. Meanwhile he has his own family. That’s a lot!

And he likes to hike solo. Yes. Great replenishment, great calming, great centering.

About time you got some recognition for what you’ve done for so many kids, Craig.  I was privileged to be the fly on the wall bearing silent witness to one heart warming example.  Appropriately enough, far back in our beloved Sierra.  I could go on, but I’ll leave it with the observation that if we had a couple thousand more like you, this country’s education system would be in far better shape.

As the owner of the most northern 2012 RtoRtoR mug, I can attest to Craig being a scholar and a gentleman.
Consider the aforementioned mug.  It has lovely proportions, is artistically pleasing, and also highly functional – being an ideal size and shape for a generous cup of tea/coffee, Cheerios in the morning, soup midday, or an ice cream sundae after dinner.

Thanks for the kind words folks.

Those mugs are pretty old! Fun to see them spread around out there. I know another is rambling around in a 4×4 on pre-dawn drives to the trailhead in Montana…I use mine in the ceramics studio here in LA.

Those were good days here on BPL and getting out in the world together.
