So far my winters have been horrible for winter camping and haven’t had much snow so I’ve been able to get away with my 3 season guylines. I know snow needs longer. Are 9ft and 5ft long enough?

The tents I used most this winter were the HMG Crosspeak 2 and the Tarptent Arc Dome Ultra. Corner guylines are only about 3 ft. They get tied around a deadman (often a stick if I’m at or below treeline) with a slip hitch, so I need a guyline that’s about double the depth of the deadman so I can slip it in the morning without digging up the deadman anchor. Pole and sidewall guylines are longer – in the 7 to 8 foot range – to give me enough distance to set the guyline a little ways from the tent, and loop it around a deadman anchor that’s buried with a slip hitch.
Put some silicone on dem der winter guy lines. jus’ sayin’
