Looking for an expedition sized backpack for a week of packrafting and hiking. After a week of hiking (not packrafting)Β with the HMG Southwest 5400 (carried 18kg) it became clear to me that it is too small for a packrafting trip with my gear and does not carry weight comfortably north of 20kgs. Therefore I need something that can handle more volume and weight better for week-long packrafting trips. The three candidates are as mentioned in the topic;
Whippa Wollemi 90
Seek Outside Unaweep 6300
HMG Porter 85L
My biggest concern with both the Porter and the Wollemi is that they are approved for about 30kgs, but it seems that the producers assess comfort ratings differently from reviewers. At least from reviews from HMG packs.
I cannot find many review on the Wollemi pack, so I am uncertain of the pack in general because of that.
The Seek Outside Unaweep 6300 is very interesting, but the most expensive and heaviest.
Any recommendations or thoughts?
PS: My packraft is the Anfibio Rebel 2k- weighing 2,4kgs with the seat attached.

Summit Gear (Whippa ‘s ‘parent ‘) packs are generally well regarded.
Where are you? If in Australia (particularly Tas), there is also Scoparia Designs https://www.scopariadesigns.com/
Cheers
Sep 20, 2025 at 1:31 pm #3841641Thank you both. I am in Norway so not able to try any of the products before buying. With these backpacks + SWD Wolverine 95 and Big Wild 95, the choices are very tough. I guess it’s a luxury but still; how to decide between them?
Sep 20, 2025 at 4:07 pm #3841653I have a 70 liter Porter (4400). Its been a decent pack. Held up for many years. I didn’t like the front pocket accessory . I think their weight limit is over rated. Lack of load lifters was a downfall when carrying heavier loads.
Sockdolager makes an interesting version. He also makes a bow bag front pocket that was originally for the HMG Porter.
I’m waiting on SWD. Five month lead time. Can be customized a bit more. Accessories can make itΒ expensive. I have their bow bag front pocket on another pack. Good quality, good folks to work with.
Sep 20, 2025 at 4:38 pm #3841658Hello Henrick,
Yes, not being able to see and try a pack on first is such a leap of faith.
For what it is worth, other users have requested Whippa not include a hydration port ‘hole’ when making their Wollemi so it’s more waterproof for pack rafting.
I found the framesheet and metal stays in my Overland easy to remove and shape to fit me well…..I’m assuming the Wollemi is the same.
Good luck with choosing π.
Oct 1, 2025 at 2:05 pm #3842154I own, and have extensively used both the Porter 85 and the Unaweep 6300 for packrafting trips ranging from 5 to 35 days. For 5 days or less (under 55lbs) I take the Hyperlite, but as soon as I hit 60lbs, it’s the Seek Outside all the way.
