The conditions are:

  • Sierras
  • Low of 25 degrees, 30-40 degrees more likely
  • Sleeping under a tarp in a EE 20 degree quilt on a NeoAir XTherm

The bottoms I am wondering about are:

  • Down pants – (such as Western Mountain or Ghost Whisperer)
  • Fleece 150
  • Fleece 250

I appreciate any feedback,

Lowell

Too much of that is subjective to provide a concrete answer. I run hot, so in those conditions I am perfectly fine with my silkweight long johns (2 ounces) and a 200 wt. wool top.

Can’t you just wear your long johns and slip on your pants if you feel chilly? Those conditions sound pretty normal.

at 30* I like sleeping in my smartwool 250 long johns. I need to get a lighter weight pair, as the 250 is all I have and is probably more than I need.

An excellent weight-to-warmth ratio to add to your list is Alpha Direct fleece pants from Timmermade or Farpointe OG.

Personally I’m going to get a pair of those for my next camp/sleep pants. depending on if its 60/90/120gsm fabric, they range from about 4-6 oz

Also the Kuiu Peloton fleece gets great reviews
