Hi everyone – I’m looking for some recommendations/alrernatives to a trip I have planned for early May.

I am actually headed to Scottsdale for business (I live in NJ) but am flying first to Salt Lake City for a week before taking a second flight to PHX.

I have permit reservations in Zion for a night at site 4 on Le Verkin followed by a night in Wildcat Canyon. My original idea was to get to the park and try to get a walkup for a 3rd night on the West Rim Trail, hike out day 4.

I booked the flight early and am now considering driving straight down from SLC after landing and waiting for the permit office to open. – then try to get 7,9 or 10 on Le Verkin, next day Wildcat Canyon or West Rim 9, next day West Rim 1, then hike out. If I can pull that off I might have enough time to drive over to Coyote Gulch and do an overnight before driving back.

A couple of years ago I did The Narrows top to bottom followed by Connector Trail to Widlcat Canyon to West Rim Trial so I have hiked a good bit of that route prior.

Soooo – my question is – being up in SLC and having a week, AND having already done some hiking in Zion – is there somewhere else that would be ‘better’ and new for me to check out?  Should I check out the Twin Peaks Wilderness area or is it too early for that? I’m unfamiliar with that area so any pointers and input from folks familiar with the area will be greatly aprreciated!
