What’s this thing on my pants?

I just got a pair of Montbell Roche Pants. They seem like they’ll be great for winter activities. I haven’t had a pair of pants like this before, though, and there’s one feature I’m curious about. On the front of the bottom cuff, there is an elastic tab that tucks away. My best guess is that this is to secure the pants to boot laces or buckles, helping to keep the snow out. Is that it, or am I missing something?

They have brick & mortar stores in both Boulder and Denver.  Call one of them and ask.  I’m guessing you’re right – that you’d put a boot buckle through the loop to keep them locked down, but it’s probably worth getting the “official” answer.

I’ve got snow pants that have something similar to secure the pants leg down to shoelaces.  To use the style you have, I’d add a length of thin stretch cord to a small plastic clip so you’d have full range of motion while still hold the pants leg down over the top of your boots.

Tie your laces through it, keeps your pants on your boot.

Thanks, all! Good idea on calling the store.
