It’s long been said that 35CFM is best for windshirts. What’s a good CFM for hiking pants for average 3 season conditions while exerting at 6-9 METS? For shoulder season?

I have some NW Alpine Volo’s that are ~50CFM and they seem to fit a pretty good window, but I wanted some numbers behind it.

I’m not sure about the CFM rating but my Duluth Trading nylon “Dry on the Fly” cargo pants are very tightly woven. I have both unlined for 3 season and the deliciously warm 200 weight fleece lined version.

The unlined pants are for Mojave desert hiking B/C they are tough and “mid weight”. To me they are the equal of RailRiders for a lot less money. Same for the fleece lined pants.

In addition Duluth Trading has many more synthetic summer and winter pants and synthetic base layers that are very sophisticated in design and fabrics. I think Duluth Trading is the “best kept secret” of an excellent source for backpacking clothing.
