Hi,

I recently replaced my ACR Res Qlink with an Inreach Sat messenger.

The battery on the PLB is out of date. What did folks do with their expired devices? Not sure if it’s worth replacing the battery as have the Sat messenger. Does anyone carry both?

Thanks,

It is possible to have the battery in your PLB replaced.  That usually includes a higher quality battery than the original (6-yr vs original 5-yr) and testing and reconditioning of the unit.  I sent my ACR to Solution One Marine several years ago.  For about $125 they did a great job and had the unit back to me in about 10 days.  I did a quick google search and see several potential options for battery replacements.

I had the battery replaced and then gave the PLB to my daughter.  Like you, I now have a satellite messenger.  I’ve been happy with that, see no need to carry both.

Hi Jerry,

Acr did tell me the battery could replaced and the unit serviced. I hear you on not carrying both units.

I do like the idea of the sat messenger.

You have two avenues to go:

1.) Send it to a ACR recognized battery replacement company as Jenny indicated that will replace the battery package and test it for water tightness.

2.) Purchase an new updated model.

I always see her name as “Jerry A”

Maybe that’s because that’s my name – what’s that person doing using my name : )
