I took my 4 year old on her first backpacking trip (at least the first where she actually hiked) a couple weeks ago at Castle Rock State Park. She had a blast, and managed all 3 miles in and 3 miles out without complaint. We’ve got a backcountry trip planned in Yosemite this summer (5 nights, with 3 days of hiking), and I’d love to downsize her sleeping bag before then.
When she was a baby and toddler, she used a DIY wearable bag I cobbled together from an XXL down vest, but since outgrowing that she’s used a 25 degree REI Lumen Youth synthetic sleeping bag that’s bulkier and heavier than my 30 degree bag or my wife’s 10 degree quilt.
After combing the web, it looks like my options are the Cedar Ridge Cub, Enlightened Equipment Revelation Jr., and Loco Libre Chili Pepper. UGQ also makes a kid’s bag, but it’s so short that I don’t think it would be worth the money. I’m leaning towards the Cub, unless I luck out and find something used in the next couple of months.
Any other brands with a 20-30 degree down youth quilt, or an affordable extra small adult quilt, that I’ve missed?
