Can anyone recommend a specific kit? I am wanting to move my water bottles from the side pockets to inside my pack and use a hose for drinking.

Thanks,

Lowell

One Bottle Hydration
https://www.one-bottle.com

I used a smart water cap drilled with two holes – one for the tube and one very small one as a vent.  I think @Matthew K (mod) sent me one from an earlier thread and it worked fine for years.  I made at least two more with a hand drill and two bits in my garage.  My only nit is if you set the bottle down on it’s side some water will drip out of the vent hole.

then I saw the One-bottle kit and thought I would try it.  If nothing else I would get a new tube, mouthpiece and insulator, which I never had.  It looks to be 3D printed cap and has a valve on the vent.  It weighs a little more, but I was happy with it on a recent overnight.  The hose is really long, and I think I’ll trim it a bit, but it should be long enough for anyone and their pack.

It’s good product, but I also wouldn’t hesitate to use the DIY one again if I needed to.

Hoses are prone to bacteria and mold build up, freeze in winter unless carefully managed, weigh more than ordinary plastic bottles, and are difficult to keep clean, especially in the field. The need to drink water almost continuously is overstated. On lengthy desert traverses lasting several days without resupply my thirst is not easily slaked and even I find an hourly water break sufficient to keep hydrated. The key to needing less water is moisture management: covering the head, arms, and legs, especially, ironically, in the heat.

Another option…

I’ve used in the past and worked fine.
