Vest straps on a framed pack?

Yeah I forgot about that one , I think I recall it being a little on the heavy side and smaller volume. I was thinking of something 40+ liters internal volume.

Have you used that pack , any thoughts on it?

I Just looked at it and I guess it is a 50 liter pack but a bit  heavy at 39 0unces.

LuxuryLite has a front pack design as I recall. I really didn’t get on with it. It obscured my view of my feet and bounced too much. But I have a heavy gait.

Thanks jscott but I fear that’s a bit of a different animal than I had in mind.

Perhaps I should stress again how surprised I was at the load carrying comfort of the Novum. I’ve tried on a couple other vest style packs and they didn’t come close , it is also the most capable frameless pack I have carried by far ( I should confess though that  my frameless experience is somewhat limited). I would say it achieves this by the dual sternum straps and oversized vest straps that measure 3.75 inches at the narrowest (top) and 6 inches at the widest( bottom), that with the tall narrow sock like shape of the pack that keeps the load more high and tight to your back , as well as the stiffness of  EPL200 that aids in getting a nice tight pack up.
Just out of curiosity I loaded it with 35 pounds and walked around a bit and it didn’t seem too bad – I mean I definitely would be using a framed pack at that weight but I was still surprised at how not terrible it was .So all that being said I guess what I’m speculating about is what  would you get with  this pack or a very similar designed pack with the addition of a hip belt and even just one aluminum stay maybe similar to the SWD movement . I’m guessing it would add around 10 lbs to the max carry while still remaining fairly light weight. Pack weight by the way for the Novum is 19.7 0z for the 21’’ torso / 43 liter main body.

The closest thing I have seen to what I am describing is the Atelier Longue Distance Hybrid pack which is a very similar looking pack with option for a frame and dual adjust belt.

Well now that is interesting Baja, I’m not sure how this slipped under my radar. I Really didn’t think Nashville made a framed pack ,I’m going to be interested in some user reviews on that one for sure.

While I know a lot of people really like their straps and gladly pay a premium for them I have not had the opportunity to try them , I will say that I do believe the novum straps while not as customizable (if bought  through Garage Grown at least) are I think a little wider and cover a bit more surface area which I suspect adds a bit to the load carrying performance . I’m curious if anybody out there that has Nashville straps could confirm their size and comment on their effectiveness.

You buy the Nashville straps at the size that fits you. You have to measure yourself. They come in different sizes. I didn’t realize that and actually ordered a size that is way too small. But I fixed that by making extensions for them. You can also customize the number of sternum straps.

I assume that the weight transfer depends on what you put in the pockets. Since my baseweight was under 8lbs, the only heavy stuff in my pack was water and food, which I can’t transfer to the pockets much. So I can’t really comment on performance with a heavy load.

Thanks Diane , I was aware that they come in different sizes, I am just trying to get an idea of  the overall width of the straps relative to the size ordered, I was under the impression that the sizing was more about length of the strap and I  figured the width wouldn’t change all that much. Judging by pictures I’ve seen and the  claims  of one reviewer with first hand experience with both Alien outdoor and Nashville the relative coverage of the strap is a bit less with Nashville.

Also yes having more weight up front does help some but I don’t find it’s the only factor or even all that necessary with the pack that I have and the weight that I usually have in it.
