I have posted a few of my older versions on Backpacking Light, and I continue to make tweeks. I made this one to use on my honeymoon and all my small tweaks were fantastic.

You can check out. more pictures and the build processes on my blog Ten Digit Grid. Here are a list of the small tweeks I made on this one:

  • Made bottom and side pockets out of Dyneema
  • Shortened shoulder straps to have the packpack ride higher on my back
  • Removed the zipper from the stretch pocket on the back
  • Added buckles to. my side straps

Let me know if you have any questions!

Interior shots, please?  Do you have a storage system integrated?  Are the answers to those questions on your site?  I’ll check there. 🙂

I have some interior shots of when I am seam sealing it on my website.

As for storage system I thought I posted a picture here but I can post another. I am just using commercially bought pod types.

Since not all. my pictures posted the first time here are two more:

Very clean and organized.  This reminds me: I need to find some good padding/foam for a camera pod that I’ve only just now decided to make.  I’ll definitely look into some lightweight shell fabric for it.  Thanks for the inspiration to get started!

I would love to see what kind of camera pod you make. Did you see the New Hyperlite camera pod?

Heavy Dim Poly fabric lined with 1/8″ CCF. Lid held with a micro-clip.

I did see them; they look very well-conceived and executed, but even the regular size is WAY too big for my needs…but I’m very minimalist when it comes to cameras, unlike seemingly everything else in my pack.  I’ll certainly keep you posted, though. 🙂

I was going to go with a grey VX-something to match my bag, but I’m going to need more than 1/8″ CCF as the padding.  You see, I possess all the grace and poise of a drunken hippo, and I don’t want to break my inevitable falls with my camera.  I was thinking 1/4″ foam at a minimum.  I like the clip idea; I was already wandering down that road after seeing Mike’s rolltop, up there.

This is a previous generation of my camera pouch, using red VX fabric rather than – yes, grey. A clip at the back to hook it onto the shoulder strap, a bit of webbing around the back of it to hold onto the shoulder strap, a roll top, a silnylon liner (blue) to make sure the camera stays dry, and a bit of webbing and a clip over the top.

The pouch is shaped to fit the camera. The foam is 1/8″, but that is enough for me as I avoid going flat on my face that hard. The camera is quite snug, and there are no great wasted cavities for ‘extras’.

The fabric does look a bit faded, doesn’t it. Oh well, that model did last many years. Then I replaced it. I think the grey fabric is a bit heavier than the red. Sewing was done inside out of course.

HTH, Cheers

That is close to what I was thinking, Roger.  Thanks for the description and images. 👍

I have been using pouches like that for the last 20-30 years. Never had any problems, AND I can get the camera out with one hand while moving.

Thats cool, but definitely wouldn’t fit my own camera lol. Mine is quite large…

Yeah, I used to carry an OM2N, but it was too large for convenient fast use. It had to travel in my pack. So I switched to a Compact, and now run a Canon G15. All the options of a full SLR.

Have you ever heard of the Peak Design Capture Clip? Its what I use to carry my large camera everywhere and I love it!

Nifty little dingus, that.  I just don’t carry large cameras* so I don’t have a lot of reason to own it.  I like the function of it, though.

* – This is not actually true: at times, I carry a 5×7.
