I just recently got the premium subscription of GAIA for my phone. I’m trying to really drill down on how to use GAIA especially as it relates to navigation. It will be used for bushwhacking. I’ve looked at a few YT videos which did provide a few insights.
Is there a source of information you could suggest to help in this regard?
Apr 24, 2020 at 9:19 am #3642869That application has an excellent instruction manual.
You can download an entire PDF version of the user manual to iOS Books by following this link:

gaiagps.com: https://static.gaiagps.com/user-manual/GaiaGPS.com/en-us.pdfApr 24, 2020 at 10:04 am #3642874If you login at http://www.gaiagps.com (not even sure you have to login), then click on Help (top center) you’ll find all kinds of good info. The FAQ link has plenty of videos.

I’ll probably download maps tonight using his suggestions for tracking and remove some of my downloaded maps.

May 2, 2020 at 12:22 pm #3644689Wow, thank you…all great information. I went out and did a 3-hour bushwhack this morning. GAIA is a wonderful tool and I’m impressed.
My new phone, a Galaxy S10, was fully charged and on airplane mode. I had GAIA on tracking and Earthmate on although it was not recording a track. My phone went down to 41% charged by the end. I was surprised it was down that low especially being on airplane mode.
Any thoughts why?
May 2, 2020 at 7:02 pm #3644763iOS Gaia experience here: tracking costs a lot of battery. Without tracking I go through 20–25%/day including photos and maybe a little audiobook/podcast if I’m having trouble sleeping. With tracking on, all bets are off.
