I live near the Canadian border so the exchange rate is something I’ve been taking advantage of lately (around $0.73). Usually it’s for some furniture or miscellaneous stuff that comes in around 20% off at the current exchange rate after taxes. Most stuff is more expensive north of the border so I hadn’t considered gear till the other day.
I was browsing MEC’s site and their list price for a Therm-a-rest Neoair xtherm is $193.00CAN. Shipping to USA is only $19.00. No Canadian taxes are charged because it goes to USA and import duties only apply after $200 (for mailed items). Total cost after rate conversion, shipping and my bank’s 3% foreign transaction fee: $157. I haven’t received it yet but the price is already reflected in my bank transaction history.
