I haven’t seen this but the scenery alone should be worth it. I read the book years ago. It was fine. Nothing special. Special agent investigates a crime,, etc.

Well, I’ve watched a bit of this series. it’s a disappointment in terms of featuring Yosemite. the camera keeps to the valley floor for the most part, venturing not much further than the top of El Capitan. It never really ventures into backcountry peaks. Moreover, I don’t like how the series implies the wilderness is filled with old hippies living on food stamps and drug dealers making some sort of drugs deep in abandoned mines, and everyone is armed to the tooth, carrying hand guns and rifles for self protection. just ridiculous. plus there’s the obligatory scene of a bear attack that would never ever occur in real life near the start of the series. And then the likewise obligatory Miwok park employee whose native wisdom never finds a place in the unfolding narrative.

Too bad! I was hoping the scenery would would make this whole thing delightful, but no. those who know yosemite valley may take pleasure in identifying the various meadows and scenery. I do as well.

The characters are good and the various backstories develop well. the acting is excellent. The plot is filled with holes and improbable twists and turns.

“I thought they were all in Yellowstone.”

?????

p.s. this series has nothing at all to do with the novel by Nevada Barr that I referenced earlier.

While set in Yosemite, the show was filmed in British Columbia.

I haven’t been so disappointed since seeing Milli Vanilli in concert.

Here ya go kids. Anyone can see this was filmed in Yellowstone, and or B.C., by god forbid, Australians! if you look closely you can see a kangaroos bounding off in the distance. (eyeroll emoji here.)

wait, I don’t seem to be able to past the trailer from netflix here. Look it up yourself. I know Yosemite from Yellowstone. El Capitan and half dome aren’t in Yellowstone. But yeah, much of the forest and mine footage was most likely filmed in the PNW. Too bad! but maybe better for the park.

Yosemite has been sold. Welcome to the virtual park system., as “embracing the suck” takes on a new meaning.

“Yosemite has been sold.”

that’s a tad cynical, doncha think? when Alex Honnold released his film, did you say “yosemite has been sold”? How about the live web cams from Yosemite Conservancy? how about any number of National Geographic Society videos, as well as PBS footage that shows Yosemite…and Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon, and Denali, and a thousand other wild areas…all sold out? No longer wild, as soon as a camera intrudes, or someone has visited before me? Come on. In short, I still don’t see your point.

Sure, Ansel Adams prints and post cards are sold everywhere. sure, the Valley floor is a tourist trap. Same with Glacier in its own way, and all the other major parks. It’s all crap now, all of Yosemite and the Grand Canyon? it’s a short step from this to saying, well, sell it all off to mining interests, I don’t care anymore. Then pick up a bottle and crawl off into bed. The world is cheap and corrupt.

Wait! I can still find solace in solitude and wilderness in, yes, Yosemite backcountry. Ask Europeans hiking in the Sierra or PNW what they think about our park systems. Seriously. There’s nothing like it in Europe in terms of being able to get past well established human encroachment.

Yosemite AI. Strap on a pair of ultralight carbon fiber Ray Ban Meta shades and see the future as we loose the past.

Current trends call for a little cynicism.

They took all the trees and put ’em in a tree museum
Now you have to watch netflix  to see them.

Terran, you know I love Joni Mitchell. Netflix charges more than a dollar and half just to see ’em. Inflation, I guess.

We can still get out. Get while the getting’s good, I guess. And don’t

Nobody stopped to hear him
Though he played so sweet and high
They knew he had never been on their T.V.
So they passed his music by
