Seems like they’re pretty new but wondering if anyone’s had any experience with the HMG half inserts, especially for the Ultamid 4? Seems good in theory but I wonder how cramped the person on the outside of the insert will feel? I like the idea of keeping half the mid for gear storage or cooking in foul weather, but not if you carry a big tent only to feel cramped while sleeping.

Will likely end up getting the full insert but am curious about the half version.

Thanks for any info!

I have the Ultamid 2 and after setting it up right after getting it, I decided that the footprint was to big for 3 season hikes. To me, it would be difficult to find a site big enough that could accommodate the tent  on bare ground.  I kept the tent  because I was looking at it as a winter tent when the rocks and other debris are buried under snow and it’s proving its self to be outstanding for this. Before buying the tent, I was looking at the full and half inserts too, and  decided the weight and expense was more than I could justify. If I were to use it for 3 season conditions,  I’d buy noseeum netting from ripstop by the roll and make my own custom insert for less weight and cost.  Most of my decisions with all this is based on being a solo Hiker,  and most likely have different needs than your own.
