UL splash/bug bivies and S2S Nano

Hi Guys,

Currently have a UL splash/bug bivy that weighs 7oz that was MYOG and using it under a GW Cape, alternatively using a S2S Nano (permethrined) on top of a piece of polycro. The latter option is lighter and also offers more living space but it is certainly more fiddly and not fully enclosed, albeit this has not been an issue so far.

So here are my questions: my UL bivy is getting kind of ragged and I started looking for new ones. The MLD bug bivy looks ok but do you guys know anyone that makes them shorter ? I am only 5ft 2in and might as well get something short to save weight/ volume. Not interested in DCF because I would be terrified of the expensive stuff getting punctured.

Anyone ever connected the S2S Nano to polycro? Thinking of just doing this instead but not sure if I should use a certain kind of tape, a glue or what. I could make it have a bathtub shape and then leave like one side open to climb in and out of but have the rest connected for ease of setup. It is just really fiddly to setup correctly. I actually used some tiny buttons to make pull outs on the S2S so the ends connect to the snaps on the ends of the GWC and the outer side pulls out to the back stake. Makes the space very liveable but takes time to setup. If the groundsheet were already connected instead of me having to adjust it and tuck it around, it would expedite the setup a lot.

Perhaps someone has done this and could send pics with details to their tape/ glue/ whatever method? Thanks!

You are right…I actually have a custom Borah snowyside. I am looking around for off the shelf options first (before custom). Should have stated that. Katabatic apparently has a short version of their Pinion bivy that I just found too.

My 10-year-old Katabatic Bristlecone matches up to the GWC like it was made for it. The head-end tie out matches perfectly to the inside snap loop. They now have foot-end tie outs, nowadays, which might match up to the other snap loop.

It looks like they’re making them in shorter lengths now, too.
