I’m planning on hiking the Uinta Highline Trail (Leidy Peak TH to Hayden Pass) in Utah the fist week of August this year if anyone is interested. I have my flights and shuttle booked. Assuming you’re coming from SLC, you’d need to be there before noon on Friday (8/1) – we have a shuttle that evening and will start hiking on Saturday (8/2). The plan is to wrap up hiking on Saturday (8/9) and drive back to SLC that night. I have a detailed itinerary and trip information if you are interested.

Bump……It looks like I may be going solo
Hi Brad, I did it last year and it was an adventure! If I hadn’t I would be all over this.
Coming from lower altitude it took a lot for me to acclimate but your trip length looks very reasonable.
have a great experience!
Thanks David. I’ll be coming from about 750ft too so it may take me a few days to adjust. I tried to keep my days really conservative – this is my first trip over 3 days since I was diagnosed with some health issues last year. Everything is supposed to be pretty good now, but I figured I might not be as strong as usual. What time of year did you go? Bug or weather issues?
We went at the end of July into early August. No real bug issues but the weather is fun to navigate. From downright hot to cold rain back to hot😂.
The biggest thing to be aware of is exposure. Wear sunscreen! UV resistant shirt, cap, sunglasses, etc. I wore shorts and shortie gaiters with low cut trail shoes.
Let me know if you have any other questions and I would be happy to help!
Good to hear as I have been worried about the potential mosquitos. I’ll be prepared for crazy weather and have even scheduled a “contingency” day for weather issues in case I lose a day of hiking (or two half days, etc).
I’ll be ready for the UV too- I just need to remember to bring a little sunscreen for my nose. Full gear list is here… https://lighterpack.com/r/8w8dwv
Great list. The only comfort item I might consider is a tarp to set up to cook if it rains. I ended up using mine because of the crazy weather.
Perhaps consider a true sun hat since this seems to be a concern for you. for example, a Sunday Afternoons full brim hat. these are light and breathable and actually shade your full face and ears and neck. Unlike a baseball style cap.
“a little sunscreen for my nose” at altitude won’t do much.

+1 in the snow!
I remember one XC ski trip where we ended up wearing silk yashmaks below our goggles to protect our faces. Would have been crispy without.
Cheers
