TRT in Mid May

In a normal to light snow pack year, what type of trail conditions could I generally expect? I understand that every year is different. I don’t mind short sections of snow travel but will not even consider a mid May start if I can expect postholing and possibly losing the trail for a majority of the trip. Under relatively normal trail conditions I want to hike it in 8-10 days.

Thanks for any insight. :-)

A lot of the trail is quite high. Typically there is a lot of snow through May around Tahoe. I think you would be postholing between Heavenly and Star Lake, and for much of Desolation. Plus a lot of short stretches. The dryer portions between Truckee and the Mt Rose Highway might be passable. And the areas on the east side are a little lower… I wouldn’t bet on being able to do it.
