This was terrific, Evan! Thanks for taking the time to write it up.
I’ve added the LHHT to my list. It looks like a really cool hike. Love the rock formations.
I have yet to do the whole thing, but I’ve done a couple of chunks. It’s pretty easy to see how any kind of motorized or wheeled transport would be a very good way to get a concussion.
Evan, – Good to read that you are still out there hiking and nice report. I did the LHHT several years ago. It was absolutely the best maintained trail I’ve ever done.I considered it a luxury hike with guaranteed shelters every night. I’ll do it again when my grand-kids get old enough.

Evan – Thanks for posting the trip report. I had done the first 20 miles from Ohiopyle heading north in 2015 and then did the other 50 miles (again heading north) last year. It’s a great trail, but I have a love/hate relationship with the shelter areas because those are the only areas where you can stay. It’s really nice having a shelter, picnic table, water, and pit toilets, but I don’t like that you’re locked into pre-determined fixed mileage days. Even so, I’m glad we did it.
I’m pretty sure the LHHT is closed to both horses and motorized vehicles (except for the bridge over the turnpike which was clearly designed for snowmobiles) so the injured guy really shouldn’t have been there to begin with. Thanks for stopping on your longest day to help him.
