I’m sure this has been addressed before, but does anyone know of anyone who does transportation from Boise airport to Sawtooth and pick up again a few days later?

Thanks again.

You should consider hitch hiking if its near national parks.

Most people have no problems picking up backpackers.  It usually takes me 15 minutes to hitch a ride.

This is half the adventure and I’ve met some super cool people.

It’s about 2.5 hours away. Plus being on a flight schedule makes it more difficult. I might just have to rent a car and let it sit for 8 days.

When are you looking to be in Idaho, and where are you looking to go?

Try to look up someone in a local trail organization.  I volunteer for the NCT, and our chapter will shuttle people if possible.

James, I assume this is for a trip next summer? Sawthooth’s are very minimally visited compared to more popular destinations so it can be hard to get there. For me, that lack of access and thus crowds is a big part of their appeal. I think the best option is to find a shuttle service or bus to Sun Valley/Ketchum then hitching up the valley to Redfish. The way back from there is easier as there will probably be other backpackers headed south and if you get cleaned up you might even get some day users to pick you up. Getting to the more remote trailheads is going to be very challenging as they are not widely used and you could end up waiting days for other users to give you a ride out.

Even though the range is relatively remote, there are basically locals going up regularly. My two cents is to put up a CL post, and to ask the local shops to add you to their bulletin boards where folks looking to meet other hikers are posted. Also, get on the two club sites,  Boise Trailheads, and Idaho Hiking club… both meet ups for hikers…

Also, just post on here as well.  As a local, there are ways to get up there from the airport etc…
