We just completed a fine 10-day east to west backpacking trip across the Sierra Nevada, starting in Reno and finishing in Auburn. For detailed information, maps, and photos, please see our trip report at: http://doingmiles.com/2019-10-reno-to-auburn/

    Yet another gem.
    Thanks so much.
Questions – Approximately how much of your route is open to bikes? Do you think it could be a biking route (with minor modifications)?

    Casey,

The areas that are closed to bikes that we are aware of are the two Wilderness segments: Mt. Rose and Granite Chief Wildernesses. There may have been a few local trails segments, particularly in the Auburn State Recreational Area that were also closed o bikes, but we can’t recall for sure. However, finding ways around the Wilderness Areas might be complicated; we have not attempted to map alternatives. You might consider contacting the Tahoe Mtn. Bike Association via the link in our report for more information about biking options.

    regards,

    James and Amy

Thank you James and Amy. You guys set me out on my first Sierra’s adventure with  the Big Seki Loop and I’ve been wearing out the Fresno airport and the Sierra’s ever since. Your trip reports are informed and pictures  beautiful.  Last trip attempted was your Mid Seki Traverse…much snow and ice but Nat Geo worthy trip. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
