Realizing that I’ll have a car at the South Rim of the GCNP June 21-24 (and maybe a bit longer) for the annual Star Party, I was going to throw this offer up on a R2R2R FB page, but thought I’d offer it to BPLers first. If you have a trip in that window or this offer inspires you to do a Death March® one of those days, I could:
– take you from your South Rim lodging / campsite stupid early in the morning to the South Kaibab or some more remote South Rim Trailhead to avoid you adding road miles before you even get started or to hit the trail sooner than the hiker’s shuttle allows.
– Drop you at any time of day to one of the more remote trailheads (a BPLer took me up on that the last time I offered and it saved them 3 miles of road-walking past the last shuttle-bus stop).
– Take your party around to the North Rim if you’re doing a R2R in 1) the downhill direction, 2) avoiding the cost and time constraints of the shuttle, and 3) probably sleeping better that early morning in my Prius than on the shuttle bus:
– or help you set up a car shuttle and leave your own car on one rim or the other.
Notice my offer is to drop you off at the beginning of your hike. Maybe there’s a play to pick you up if you call from near a South Rim trailhead, but for a North Rim pick up, I know I’d fret if you were late, feel like I couldn’t leave, but also be frustrated hanging out at the trailhead for hours and hours.
Oh, and I’m driving from the SF Bay Area to the South Rim June 19 and/or 20, maybe passing through LA if that presents an opportunity.
