I’m curious, other than some sort of pad attachment system, is there anything different between quilts made by hammock companies vs the more traditional (for lack of a better term) backpacking companies?

Seems to me they should pretty well be interchangeable, but I only hear about the hammock company quilts over on the hammock forum and the other companies quilts here.

I think the “standard” width in some of the hammock quilts is like a narrow quilt for ground dwellers.  A standard ground dweller quilt would be wide to the hammock crowd.

My EE Revelation 30, is 54″ wide.  When I decided to get something warmer, I went with Hammock Gear, whose standard width is 50″ – I believe it’s the same for Loco Libre.  Most companies will have guidelines to help pick a size that’s best for you.

As a frequent side sleeper when I’m hanging I actually really like my extra wide HG TQ even when I’m hanging. The full width makes it easy to get a really nice tuck when you are rolling around half-asleep I’m freezing weather.

Bob is spot on, the widths are are categorized differently since you can use a narrower quilt in a hammock. FWIW I hang exclusively now and immediately sold my Wide EE Enigma for a regular width Enigma as there was just too much material to manage (for me at least, HYOH). But I do sleep on my back and have a fairly small-to-average frame. 5’10” @ 170 lbs and I just made a 52″ wide down quilt and find it to be on the money for what I’m after. Please note that the width of my quilt along with the advertised widths from <span style=”text-decoration: underline;”>some</span> cottage vendors (EE and UGQ for sure) is the shell only before stuffing. Once stuffed, my 52″ quilt is more like 48″.

Thanks for the info, never thought to consider width.
