I picked up a Toaks TiStand combination pot stand and windscreen over the holiday and wondered if anyone has tried it.

It is made with 4 interlocking Ti sheets and a couple Ti stakes. It weighs 2.5 ounces. It was designed for use with a Toaks Siphon alcohol stove, but I have a Trangia burner and a Trail Designs 12-10 that both fit nicely in the bottom.

I can fit a Toaks 750ml pot perfectly on the stand and a MontBell Ti Sierra cup sits well to.

I assume  the efficiency is in the distance from burner to stove pot and that may take some experimentation.

It’s probably too well ventilated on the bottom for windy weather and I have a mind to cut some aluminum flashing strips to block the holes on at least one panel. It will be simple to cut tabs on each end to fold through the holes.

Anyone used it?

I’ve spent a lot of time browsing that Toaks site but I’ve never bought any of their goodies.    I’m a fan of the Flat Cat Gear stuff when it comes to windscreens.

I received one as a stocking stuffer this Christmas. I lit it up a couple of days ago with a triangia knock off using a 700 ti pot from Backcountry and with 15 ml of fuel was able to get perfect temperature for coffee. The air temp was about 60 degrees and the water a tad cooler at the start of the burn. I assembled it as pictured above and had to bend it to the limit of its elasticity to put the last link. It was difficult and was careful not to deform it. Due to the struggle I left it assembled overnight but after disassemble the next day it goes together easily without struggle. I like it and will probably use it the next trip with the Siphon burner already in the gear box with a 550 pot. The simplicity of the set-up and elimination of an additional cup seems promising.

I assembled mine with the tabs in “loose” mode and it was fine once it was all together.  I’ll have to try the other way. I’ve fiddled with aluminum flashing and foil windscreens for years and just liked this well fitted arrangement.

Zelph sells lightweight corrugated aluminum windscreens. I have used those for several years with a remote butane burner. They also make a good supplemental windscreen with an alcohol set up on a windy day.

How big is the gap between the top of the windscreen and your 700 pot (assuming the UL model pot)?
I use Toaks’ cheap Ti windscreen in a similar fashion, and it works pretty well. I just punched some holes in the top just below where the bottom of the pot is so I don’t need a gap between the screen and pot. Worked well in the low 30s for me last week, easily boiled 2 cups cold cups of water with about 3/4oz of Heet using literally an unmodified (but emptied and cleaned) cat food can.

The ID of the stand is about 4-1/8” and the OD of the pot is 3-3/4” so the  gap is about 3/16” (0.188”) or 4.77mm.

Interestingly that is the same way my Trail Designs ti Sidewinder stove works when in wood burning mode, with 2 ti “stakes” to support the pot..
