Anybody try Tmobile Satellite communicator?
Until July you can try the beta for free – https://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/satellite-phone-service
You sign up to get on a list, then they email you to get it turned on
It allows you to send messages with your phone when you’re out of cell range
After July it’s $10 a month
I wonder if works good
May 20, 2025 at 2:11 pm #3835331if you don’t enroll in the beta, after July, it’s $15 a month
so, I applied
I pay something like $10 a month for inreach mini
May 20, 2025 at 3:05 pm #3835332I don’t want anything to do with starlink.

I can’t use this but I subscribe to his channel
May 21, 2025 at 7:38 am #3835360starlink wouldn’t be my first choice
Bezos is supposedly going to have a bunch of satellites, maybe that would work

May 21, 2025 at 8:36 am #3835368I send texts on my I-Phone via satellite while backpacking no problem but not sure what satellite(s) they use. Share my location too. Sorry for the off topic reply.
May 21, 2025 at 8:47 am #3835369I watched David’s youtube video. That was really good. (As opposed to problems identified with influencers)
He said he’s also evaluating skylo which is a competitor to starlink
He concluded the technology is immature. About 40% of the time the message didn’t get through. Sometimes a reply would get lost until he got back into cell phone range. Maybe sending another message would cause the reply to get through…
I guess I’ll just use my inreach for a while.
I’ve never been an early adopter. I hate debugging new products : )

May 21, 2025 at 10:42 am #3835377Switch to StraightTalk. The money you save over using T-Mobile will pay for your inreach service.
May 21, 2025 at 11:56 am #3835378Xfinity cell coverage – $12 per month for two phones. Only 1G of data
May 22, 2025 at 8:51 am #3835400It looks like you can use the T-Mobile satellite service on any carrier and not just T-Mobile.
