Ah so.
Looks like limestone, but I could be mistaken.

Yup.  The Sierra is noted for its granite, which is most of what you see in these photos.  There are, however, metamorphic formations in some places I have visited, which are derived from the ancient seabed through which the magma that later formed the Sierra forced it way to the surface.   Some of them contain marble, which is metamorphosed limestone;  not surprising, given the marine sediments underlying the Sierra range.   But most of what you will see when backpacking in the Sierra is granite.
