Tiny Battery Bank LED – Anyone used one of these?

I was just thinking about lighting since my BD LED Lantern is sitting in front of me. I was thinking how I might connect it to my battery bank so I can get rid of the 3 AAA batteries inside, and then it hit me; might there just be an adjustable LED which would plug right into my battery bank? I always carry mine to charge my phone and headlamp anyway, so why not ditch the lantern if possible? I came across this item and wondered if anyone else has used one of these. I don’t have a red light on my headlamp (BD Iota), so I’ve been looking to get something to use at camp at night.

I wouldn’t want to rely on that for my primary lighting on a long or ambitious trip. Using it in the rain or for navigation at night might be problematic. They do weigh only a couple grams so it might make sense as a backup? I’ve thought about ordering one but never gotten around to it.

I definitely wouldn’t be leaving my Iota behind. This would be strictly for camp use.

I use a power bank as possible charging source for my bike headlamp. They do make a few power banks with built in LED flashlights but I have yet to see one that was more than an weak add on. This one seems to be about the same level. It’s hard to object on the weight.

I have a tiny Olight i1R 2 EOS that recharges via a USB-C port that can turn out 150 for a short time. Fine as a tent/camp/latrine light and great for EDC and travel, but not a replacement for my headlamp.

It’s likely that this won’t work. The power bank usually switches off the output after few seconds if there’s no load, and such a little light won’t draw enough current.

I tried with similar small usb LED light, and it switches off quickly. With larger one with more LEDs, it works.

Hi Jan. I noticed that for this particular light as well. May have to look for a different one.

@MikeBergy – I have the Nitecore TIKI GITD flashlight and really like it.  It’s only 12 grams and is much more versatile than something that only works when connected to a brick.  It has multiple modes, but I really like that if I grab it and push the button I get a 300-lumen beam out of the end – perfect for trying to spot those little “bumps in the night” I hear while in my hammock.

It would certainly act as a lantern the way you want it to and they also have a LE version that has red and blue LEDs instead of the white and UV LEDs of the GITD model.

I have an Anker battery bank (20k mah or approximate) that has an led light in addition to the plugs. Nice multiple use functionality.
