I am looking to upgrade my well-used aluminum mug/cup, a GSI minimalist (no handles, comes with neoprene sleeve and a really nice /durable drinking lid.
I am not concerned about the sleeve as it’s easy for me to duplicate, but I am looking to replicate the cup/lid functionality with a lighter, more fire-worthy Ti cup.
My key uses are:
- Drinking cup. I often make a cup of coffee to take with me on the trail until my first stop, so having a good durable spill-resistant lid is critical. I’ve been fine with the GSI lid even though it doesn’t have a closure for the mouth opening – of course fully sealing would be great but probably not going to happen with ultralight.
- When I go solo it is my only pot and cup, so I’m cooking over either alcohol or fire.
Here are the specs on the GSI minimalist:
- Cup is 3.5oz alone. Doesn’t have handles. Regarding the new cup, I am ambivalent about handles because while they would be useful they add weight and complicate the insulating sleeve
- The lid is awesome in the sense that it is durable and heat resistant, but it is heavy at 1.5 Oz.
I’ve looked all over but the only ti cups that seem to come with lids are double wall such as the snow peak versions. I’m not interested in that because I can’t cook on it if I want to. I’ve also seen SUL adaptations of disposable plastic lids; I really like something durable and perminant. I suppose if there was something Dirt Cheap, easily replaceable, and durable enough to last say 10 nights on the trail I’d be okay with that too.
Thank you!
